Good sleep is part of a healthy lifestyle, along with a healthy diet and physical exercise. The triumvirate of health, coined by Dr William Dement from Stanford University, refers to the importance of sleep in relation to diet and physical exercise, suggesting that sleep plays as important a role in health and longevity as diet and exercise. Poor sleep or sleep disorders can lead to decreased productivity, increased absenteeism and accidents, as well a decrement in general health and well being.
SleepSmart offers employee education programs for companies, and programs and workshops for personal trainers, community organizations and others on sleep health. The outcome expected would be increased awareness about sleep, sleep disorders and sleep hygiene, providing information and methods which may lead to improvement in general health and quality of life.
